I just listened to the replay of Modoff interview on vcall. Said two interesting things and one really stupid thing (IMHO).

Interesting: In answer to question about what QCOM will do with cash, including cash from handset sale, he suggested they might invest in software applications companies. I think this would be a good place to invest. Good (killer?) apps will help drive the purchase of CDMA wireless appliances. Would follow INTC's model of investing in companies that made wintel apps.

When he gave his earnings estimates for 2000 & 2001 ($4.04 & $4.95 respectively) he said that if you set an aggressive, but within the appropriate range, multiple a $400+ price can be justified now.

Dumb: Interviewer went on to MOT and said that because MOT's sotck price waas 1/3 QCOM's wouldn't MOT be a better buy? Modoff said yes! Didn't these guys ever hear of comparing market cap vs. stock price.
