Chuck, I have often thought they could place the first boot screen in flash so you would get life when the switch is thrown. Of course that will cost you extra...doable. As drives get faster they can go though the boot in 5 seconds as long as they trim all the response waits and cut out peripheral checks for mouse/keyboard etc, which will approximate the screen warm up time. I never turn my machine off. Win98SE, never crashes, just a 5 second monitor warmup is OK.

many machines are never upgraded, so new Intel stuff will come with factory rambus built in. Soldered flat???
