Whatever works for you. I think most people have a psychological problem writing off 25% of their investment and will try to hang on "just a little longer". With the unlimited downside inherent in short-selling that can be extremely dangerous. (I have no such strategic "limit" when investing long.)

I don't do much shorting, never with more than $100K, and rarely holding longer than a month or so. This because, in general, I believe there are much better bets available in long-term longs with all the baby-boomer retirement money flowing into the market. (This may change about 2008 when that population bubble stops working and starts drawing out.)

I'm net positive having made money shorting NSCP and lost less money shorting DELL. I wrote off the DELL with an 8% loss after about 2 weeks. It's frightening to think what would have happened had I held on.

A couple or three of these wild internet stocks will *never* come all the way down. I don't know which ones, and if they're honest, nobody else does either. I wouldn't want to be caught short on them.

Good luck to all.
