What I understand from the things I've read and heard about Drew Major's ideas of the future, he's looking at taking services and resources on the network and make them into "appliances". Once you commoditize the services et al you then sell NDS as the glue that keeps it all running.

From what I understand, by using NDS and it's capabilities you can scale your network by adding more appliances. Same holds true for extending your network services by adding new appliances to your network. The advantage would be that you could choose the "best of breed" solution that fits your business needs and not some product your OS vendor has which may or may not fit your needs.

ICS is just the beginning of that vision. I think we'll see more appliances just as the certificate server, VPN and FireWall appliances.
