John, OT Bill Veeck. From what I read about him for years, he certainly sounded like one of the most innovative owners, that came up with new ideas for the game, rather than just for money. Unfortunately, like Tom Yawkey of the Red Sox, who also never produced a WS winner, maybe nice guys do finish last. Naw, take that back, neither ever had Yankee type money.

John,

also very OTOT

Back when I was in high school in Chicago, my best buddy's mom was Veeck's executive secretary in the company he owned (I think it was insurance - not sure). This is when he owned the Sox. She used to tell us stories about his zanyness all the time. One day he called her in and she had to choose the color of the Sox uniforms so she did and that's what they used.

Quite a character and great for the game. With regret, I missed the bar scene at Miller's.

way OT

I spent many an enjoyable evening at Miller's, and actually remember a high percentage of them. This is the first that I have heard that it is no longer on Adams.

John, OTOT:>>>I spilled a few beers with Mr. Veeck at Miller's Pub when it was on Adams street in Chicago.<<<

I don't doubt your veracity, but this is beginning to sound like the Buddy Holly story. If all those people that was booked on Buddy Holly's last flight were actually booked for that flight, they would have been booking for a stretched version of a Boeing 747 instead of the puddle jumper that crashed.

If all the people coming out of the woodworks are claiming to have spent as much time at Miller's Pub, Miller's Pub would still be on Adam Street <gggg>.

I guess that's how legends become legends.

Now Osha is trying to become a legend. Based on one breakfast meeting with Andy Bryant, he is claiming all sorts of insights and now know more about Intel's business than the management at Intel - Andy Bryant not withstanding.

I remember when Mr. Osha was just a newbie at ML - hardly wet behind the ears. Now he knows more about Intel than the fellows running Intel.

With a certain amount of tongue in cheek,

Mary
