Re: "Two way systems(MERCED/ITANIUM) are said to be delivering clock speeds of 1000MHz each already, but each processor is demanding 140 watts of electricity, said a source. "

"Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Silicon Graphics will demo a 16-way clustered Itanium system later on today using a version of the Linux operating system. © "

Has anyone seen a demo of a 2-way Athlon yet?

Ted I don't think the article is that far off....the writer may be first assuming that all that is produced will be shipped. If that is correct then the current guidance AMD has given for chip production is a total of 1,350,000: 350 thousand in Q3 and 1 mil in Q4.

We already have decided that Sanders was sandbagging. And he did say that yields were good so its not far fetched to have them producing 50 to 150,000 thousand more chips than the current guidance would indicate. So the article you posted may very well be correct.

As for break even all I have heard is that AMD needs revs of $850 mil to break even in Q4. If the analyst's report that was posted this AM is correct, AMD should make 900+ mil revs in Q4 with a small profit as well.

I guess I was confused by the article's lack of distinction between Q4 and aggregate shipped. On an aggregate basis, I would agree that it is entirely reasonable. With flash improving, things might actually work out this quarter.

I just can't help but feel a little deja vu from this time last year. "Maybe this time it will be different." TM AMD Longs
