Hi Ken,

I haven't found one, but here's a list by decreasing "purity":

Nichia Chemical of Japan, the pioneer of blue LEDs. Not a public company.

Aixtron of Germany, builds reactors to make compound semiconductors, trades on the Neuer Markt there. LED manufacturers accounted for 48% of their revenues in 1998; this was the largest end market for their equipment. White LEDs would only be a portion of that. The last time I looked, this was a very expensive stock.

EMCORE is an American company that competes with Aixtron as a supplier of equipment, though they are also involved on the device side of the business. They are partnered with one of the huge conglomerates, GE, and with the company below. Perhaps by trying to play both sides in some of their businesses they end up playing neither very well. Whether true or not, I've seen this criticism repeated many times.

Uniroyal Technology is bringing production on line and will begin selling in late December. It isn't a pure play either, since their LED sales will be small compared to their sales of high performance plastics and Naugahyde, but the market seems to be treating it like it is. The stock just took a big jump based on this press release:

uniroyaltech.com

Looks like they won't have any problem finding customers. Investors can definitely be 'sold' on the potential of white LEDs if this is any indication. These guys aren't even selling anything yet! <g>

A pure play would be nice. Let us know if you find a candidate.
