NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Lycos rose 1 5/8 to 61 1/2 in Instinet after-hours trading after the Internet search engine (LCOS: news, msgs) posted Fiscal 2000 first-quarter revenue that more than doubled over the year-ago period.

Lycos reported revenue of $56 million for the quarter versus $24.8 million posted in fiscal 1999 first quarter. Earnings per share of one cent were in line with the consensus estimate of analysts surveyed by First Call and an improvement from the 3 cents a share loss posted a year earlier.

Lycos, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCOS - news), the fastest growing Internet portal and the world's largest online community, today announced financial results for its first quarter of fiscal year 2000 ended October 31, 1999. Revenues for the quarter were $56.0 million, representing an increase of 24% over the previous quarter ended July 31, 1999 and a 126% increase over the comparable period from the previous fiscal year. The Company reported a profit of approximately $700,000 or $0.01 per share for the quarter before amortization of intangible assets.
