Jerry,

Yes, returns to the store could be convenient if Costco is in your town *and* relatively nearby. When I looked for my product class (simple Hi-Fi VCR, limited use so relatively inexpensive was in order), I found very few options (maybe one?) at Costco. I bought a Phillips-Magnavox VRA671AT from Amazon.com for $129.99, so it's tough to save $200 on that item. I would expect that on the most expensive items, Amazon.com prices too high for the reasonably cost-conscious.

But I'm sure Costco is, as you said, adding new items everyday to improve selection.

Randy

>>Costco's website was easy to navigate and worked well for me. I always thought the warehouse stores
(Price Plus/Costco and Wallmart with Sam's Town) could work the internet B to C format into their
models much easier than the regular retailers.

I asked someone at a big warehouse store about this in 97, and got the sense a lot of the fiefdoms understood this, though top management was still a little leery about the IT expenditure and, especially, potential for disruption. AMZN presumably scared them into line.

I've always thought people would spend more at places like Costco if they could fill out an order (online or otherwise) for bulky items, like laundry detergent or whatever, browse for impulse purchases, and then check out with everything.
