One very good rule is the 4 percent rule when re-balancing your holdings.

Now is a good time to put that in effect. At some prescribed time interval; check to make sure that you don't have more than 4 percent in any one security. If you REALLY know a stock and company, you can cheat up to 10 percent but that's it. Eliminates specific company risk.
