In the Foundation Trilogy, Asimov posits that the flaw with psychology as a science is the attempt to predict the behavior of individuals, which are too random. Instead, one develops theorems about mass behavior, which is much closer to determinate, and therefore one can analyze events, make predictions, and establish conditions to manipulate the course of history. Of course, the Mule, a mutant with mind control abilities, thwarts the master plan, by introducing a purely random element into the social development of the human colonies. Eventually, the problem is corrected and history is set back on course......
