Here's a pure unmitigated guess on my part.
The earnings were posted within minutes of the
closing bell. Just before the close, there seemed
to be more buying and a price spurt.

I infer a last minute leak, and with the strong
buying at the end, perhaps a gap up.

Wishful thinking on an FOMC day?
