JGoren: Re the joint venture. You point out this:

"It is very savvy marketing-wise to come out first with TDMA; if it had been cdma the corporate world would have simply reacted that it's cdma and the traditional TDMA/GSM alternatives would be as good or better. This way, the perception is that it can be considered "first" and really is neutral from the carriers' perceptions."

Agree.

But much more crucial is that the JV was also to be agnostic re wireless operating systems and browsers. With Microsoft at the helm, will that be possible? Or is it Win CE, period?

The Gates presentation today which is 100 % proprietary Win CE for handhelds, does not give much cause for thinking that any other system will be used in the joint venture - especially with ex Q leadership just replaced with Microsoft leadership at the helm of WirelessKnowledge.

What of the Palm or Symbian alternatives?
