i just shifted my bet to DSL

If you don't know how it is going to shake out, then a bet placed in both camps makes more sense. A win on either side will more than make up for the loss on one and then there is the chance that both will win (or both lose, but to what?). Imagine how bitter you would feel a few years from now if you look back and see that you hung in there waiting for ATHM only to quit at the pivotal juncture. If you can't handle Ahhaha....then there is that handy ignore feature SI gave us. Besides, this thread needs a little poetry from time to time!

Like your house, my new house is also out of range of cable (1 mile away). I am also out of range of DSL. My phone line is crap and the best connection I can get with a 56k modem is 24600 bps. As I said before I went to a GMH direct pc system.

BTW, in my test I mentioned a few days ago I found out I (big dummy), was not using my satellite modem (self installed), I was only using my original 56k modem. The satellite modem is much better than what I had, but I would trade in a second for a RR or ATHM connection. The fact that I can't get cable has nothing to do with my investment in ATHM.

IMO, in the long run, none of the DSL companies will compare favorably with ATHM. However, you may or may not make some money on DSL stocks short or long term - WITHK (who in the hell knows).

Regards,

Wingman

Here's an example of one of several DSL service lookup sites
2wire.com

Very nice use of Flash, too.

Just for kicks, I looked myself up ... I see there are now 20 DSL service providers who want my business ... up from 2 6-8 months ago. That's 20 different providers who could roll a truck to my house ... 20 different organizations hiring and training. 20 potentially different management styles, values, and goalsets. Diversity, multiplicity.

One advantage DSL has is that it's basically an open-system technology. It's easy for new players to jump in the game ... a very different dynamic than cable's closed-system worldview.

I still like ATHM, tho.

As I said a year ago ... both will thrive.

The stock is just showing signs of life, don't leave yet. We need a beat poet on the thread to round off the jugglers, clowns, and comedians. I don't know about others, but when I read your posts I light some incense, put on my orange-tinted sunglasses, smoke a clove cigarette, and snap my fingers. ATHM is groovy man. The "S" in DSL stands for Squares.

Don't worry about Ahhaha. This thread can be pretty brutal, yet still edifying, like Catholic school. Our Lady of Perpetual Connection. The Holy Order of Fibrous Broadband. The Ascetic Monks of St. Surphen de Webb....

@Home/Cable is a big thing in the Bay area. Far more people
uses cable than DSL here. You should move to more urban area to see that.

Imp! I agree with others here.....you have sacrificed yourself for the common good ......you have capitulated......for all of us die-hard longs.......that is the ultimate sacrifice, Imp!........and now we shall rocket this stock to the moon......without you, man ....<sob sob>

PS)But, if you happen to reconsider......like if you come back on board? .......just don't tell us until it hits 60, ok?!

........and the band strikes up a funky jam!

...all aboard that funk boat that I'm about to start sailing on.....all you riggers and all you jiggers......everybody's in the funky blowout....

See? ....you are family here, buddy! Come back! come back! but remember not to spoil the sacrifice part....don't tell us when you buy back in, ok? or the stock market gods will be po'd big-time and we will stay in this hell of a limbo for all eternity.......<aghhhhhhhh>

See this chart? It is not a dumper, I don't think. No. Does anybody think this is a dumper? ........no, I don't think so.........
