CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov 16, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Optical Access Communications, a division of MRV Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRVC) today announced a complete family of Fiber Channel transceiver modules. The product line consists of transceiver modules in 1x9, duplex SC, LC and GBIC configurations. The 1x9 transceiver module is a standard device capable of Fiber Channel data rates. Available in either 5V or 3.3V versions, these singlemode transceivers, operating at 1310nm or 1550nm, are capable of covering extremely long distances up to 100km. The LC transceiver module follows the new small-form factor standard and is supported by IBM, Lucent, Sumitomo and Methode Electronics. Using the LC transceiver module not only increases port densities by up to 100 percent in fiber-optic communications systems, but it also allows network equipment engineers to design circuit boards and panel cutouts to accommodate copper connectors as well as fiber-optic ports. The LC connector utilizes an RJ-45 telephone-style housing - a common design in the telecommunications industry. These modules are available in 3.3V versions and are capable of covering extended distances of up to 70km. The GBIC transceiver module is ideal for long-haul transmission of Fiber Channel and Gigabit Ethernet data. Optical Access GBIC transceivers are available for various transmission distances ranging from 6km to 100km with excellent EMI performance. Noam Lotan, president and chief executive officer, commented: "We are very excited about the release of these new components. They provide our customers with the greatest of flexibility in designing the physical layer interfaces for Fiber Channel and Gigabit Ethernet." About MRV Communications, Inc.
