Shockley Communications' KXLT Initiates Newscasts Using ParkerVision's PVTV Studio News System Fox 47 Broadcaster Projects Profitable News Operation Within First Quarter Of Use Of Automated Digital Production System JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ParkerVision, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRKR) today announced that KXLT-TV/Fox 47 in Rochester, Minnesota, has commenced local news programming utilizing ParkerVision's PVTV Studio News System and CameraMan(R) Robotic Cameras. The PVTV automated studio enables KXLT-TV to initiate daily live news broadcasts and create other live programming while keeping production crew size and costs to a minimum. KXLT-TV, one of six television stations owned by Shockley Communications Corp., Madison, Wisconsin, broadcasts to 130,000 homes including Rochester and Austin in southeastern Minnesota, and Mason City in northeastern Iowa. KXLT- TV joins Cablevision's News 12-The Bronx, which has already produced over 4,000 newscasts in just 17 months using the PVTV Studio News System. Additional installations of PVTV Studio News are underway and other broadcast affiliates are scheduled to initiate automated production of live newscasts in December and January. The PVTV automated production platform is currently also being used in other applications within corporations, colleges and high schools. John Ganahl, general manager of KXLT-TV, stated, "As a 601 SDI plant, we are very pleased with the decision to launch our news broadcast operation with the PVTV digital system. We chose to deploy the system because of its cost effectiveness from both a capital expenditure and operational viewpoint. PVTV Studio News makes it possible for us to project profitability for news programming within the first quarter of operation. We also anticipate an immediate competitive advantage as the system frees additional dollars for use in programming enhancement and station promotion." Commenting on the station's first news broadcast, Ganahl continued, "We could not have been happier with the performance of PVTV. The system is incredibly accurate in preparing and accessing tape rolls and sound bites. Our first broadcast was unquestionably a home run." Richard Sisisky, ParkerVision's President and Chief Operating Officer, said, "We are delighted that KXLT-TV chose ParkerVision for the automation of their news production. The PVTV system is unique because it provides television stations with the control, consistency and cost effectiveness required for news and other live programming, while allowing critical personnel to pursue other tasks. We appreciate the confidence that John Ganahl and key decision makers at Shockley Communications have placed in ParkerVision. Consistent with KXLT's experience, ParkerVision's focus remains squarely on meeting and exceeding our customers' service and support expectations, while freeing them to consistently produce quality newscasts." PVTV also integrates with KXLT-TV's Avstar(TM) newsroom computer system, providing the station with even greater automation capabilities. PVTV Studio News allows one person to control all the elements necessary for production of a live broadcast. Incorporating the video switcher, DVE and audio mixer, PVTV's unique Transition Macro(TM) technology enables the director to control playback devices such as VTR's, video servers, still stores and character generators as well as robotic cameras and other production equipment to eliminate the costly and inefficient methods of traditional programming.
