Mary Beth Whitehead got famous and left her garbage man husband and married an upper middle class accountant.

Fame in America is itself a form of capital, often. Youth and beauty are capital everywhere. Certainly a pretty face is a credit and an ugly one is a debit. If all we knew about Paula Jones was her before-and-after face, we'd know she had gotten lucky that day. She lives, now, in a friendlier world.
