LSI Logic First to Achieve Rambus Gold Partnership Status Achievement Affirms LSI Logic's World Leadership in High-Speed I/O MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), The System on a Chip Company, announced today that it is the first company to achieve Gold ASIC Support Partnership status for its Direct Rambus(TM) ASIC Cell (RAC). This Gold Partnership status recognizes LSI Logic's comprehensive capabilities in supporting Rambus(R)-based designs and assures customers that LSI Logic is a proven choice for ASIC solutions based on the Rambus core. "LSI Logic has leveraged its high-speed I/O expertise to provide its customers with complete and comprehensive support for Rambus ASICs," said Subodh Toprani, Vice President, Logic Products Division, Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS) "Through our long relationship with LSI Logic, they have demonstrated exceptional ability in developing and supporting Rambus technology and we're very pleased to recognize their commitment by awarding them Gold Partner status." LSI Logic's Rambus RAC core is characterized in silicon to Rambus' full 800 MHz operating speed. In addition, LSI Logic offers customers seamless support for developing Rambus-based ASICs. The Rambus RAC is part of LSI Logic's CoreWare(R) library and comes with a complete set of deliverables for integrating the core into an ASIC. To support customers with the design of their ASICs, LSI Logic provides both field engineers to assist with the integration of the Rambus RAC and high-speed signal integrity experts to assist in package selection and board layout. "We have a long-term partnership with Rambus and being the first to achieve Gold ASIC Support Partnership for the Rambus RAC affirms our expertise in Rambus design implementation," said Hugh Durdan, Vice President and General Manager of LSI Logic's Computer Division. "LSI Logic is a recognized ASIC leader in high speed I/O interfaces and the Rambus core is an important component of our portfolio." With signal pin rates of up to 800 megabits per second, a single Direct Rambus memory Channel uses a two-byte wide data path to achieve peak data rates of 1.6 gigabytes per second and is one of the highest performance memory interfaces available. Combining high bandwidth and extremely low pin-count, Rambus technology addresses the high-speed memory requirements for a range of applications from consumer electronics to high-performance computer desktop systems. When integrated into an ASIC, the Rambus RAC provides a physical layer interface to a Rambus Channel. LSI Logic's portfolio of high-speed I/O technologies also includes the GigaBlaze(R) core for standards compliant multi-gigabit serial interconnects and the HyperPHY(TM) core for multi-gigabyte backplane interconnects. These cores may be combined with the Rambus RAC core on ASICs requiring high-speed I/O and a high performance Rambus memory channel interface. Additionally, LSI Logic offers a full line of high-performance I/O buffers such as CPU bus, SDRAM, PCI, and AGP buffers to meet customer's system requirements.
