Economic Growth:

Hi,

I don't know if anyone is still monitoring this thread. I am interested in finding out if there are any economic models for a viable economy that do not include increased spending by consumers. I am also interested in finding out if information technology will impact this by driving down overhead. I heard recently that B-B internet companies with save businesses about one trillion dollars in the near future. This will surely have an impact on prevailing market models that suggest the best way to grow your economy or get out of a recession is to give consumers the motivation to spend more money.

I am interested in your opinions and any references (popular press or academic) on this subject.

Thanks,

George D.
