(BSNS WIRE) SmartDisk Corporation Develops FlashPath Solution For Voice
SmartDisk Corporation Develops FlashPath Solution For Voice It Mobile Digital
Recorder; Floppy Disk Adapter Works With Flash Memory Cards Used In Voice
It/Dragon Systems Products

Business Editors & Technology Writers
COMDEX Fall 99

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1999--SmartDisk Corporation
(NASDAQ: SMDK), a designer, developer and provider of products that
simplify the digital lifestyle and enable consumers to easily share
digital data among advanced consumer electronic products, personal
computers and the Internet, announced today that it has integrated
support for the digital, hand-held Voice It(R) Mobile Digital Recorder
(VTR Series) into its FlashPath(TM) floppy disk adapter. By creating a
FlashPath solution for the Voice It recorder, SmartDisk is entering
the growing digital audio market.
"We have already sold more than one million FlashPath units for
use with digital still camera models from Olympus, FujiFilm and
others," said Quresh Sachee, vice president of marketing, SmartDisk
Corporation. "We believe this new collaboration with Voice It will
broaden the appeal of FlashPath by enabling it to transfer digital
audio from the recorder's flash memory cards to PCs. This new
relationship furthers SmartDisk's corporate mission - to create
seamless solutions that simplify the digital lifestyle."
"For those who use flash memory cards, FlashPath provides a
consumer-friendly way to transfer voice files from the Voice It
recorder to a PC for playback or transcription," said Tim Walters,
vice president of business development, Voice It. "Users simply remove
the flash memory card from their Voice It, insert it in the FlashPath
adapter and then place the FlashPath into the computer's floppy
drive."
The benefit of the new system, according to Walters, is that the
removable flash memory card allows for unlimited recording capability,
and that the FlashPath adapter provides an easy-to-use, portable
solution for downloading compressed voice files to and from the PC and
the Voice It recorder.
Under an agreement with Dragon Systems, the Voice It recorder
also is sold under the brand name, Dragon NaturallyMobile(TM) digital
recorder, and is bundled with Dragon Systems' NaturallySpeaking speech
recognition software.
"SmartDisk's FlashPath is a natural complement for the Dragon
Systems' NaturallyMobile branded recorder and speech recognition
software package," said Paula Crerar, product manager at Dragon
Systems. "FlashPath is the perfect example of a product that is
bringing about the convergence of electronic devices."
SmartDisk's FlashPath can be ordered directly from SmartDisk via
the company's Web site, www.smartdisk.com. In addition, customers,
including those who already own a FlashPath for use with their digital
camera, can download Voice It driver support software directly from
SmartDisk's Web site. The driver support software's general
availability date is expected in January 2000. A beta version will be
available in December 1999.
FlashPath will be included in a Digital Transcription System that
is scheduled to be launched at COMDEX. The system, which is modular,
consists of the Dictation module (Voice It Mobile Digital Recorder
with Voice It Link software, $199 MSRP), the Voice File Transfer
Module (FlashPath with two 8 MB SmartMedia cards, $149 MSRP), and the
Transcription Module (software, headphones and foot pedal, $199 MSRP).
The Transcription System modules will be sold through Voice It
distributors and the company's Web site at www.voiceit.com.
