Cost-Effective Alternative to Desktop Solutions Delivered From Web Servers Using Microsoft ActiveX(R) Technology
CUPERTINO, Calif., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- NetManage, Inc. (Nasdaq: NETM - news), a leader in providing eBusiness networking and application solutions, has announced further enhancements to its ViewNow product line.

The new ViewNow server-based solution provides managed access to host systems from personal computers equipped with Web browsers that support Microsoft's ActiveX technology. NetManage's latest product, ViewNow Browser Edition for ActiveX, delivers easy-to-use host connectivity to PC clients from a Web server over standard Internet connections. Once the software is downloaded through the browser, authorized users can access available UNIX, IBM AS/400 and IBM mainframe host systems.

As part of the NetManage eN2000(TM) framework, ViewNow Browser Edition for ActiveX integrates with directory-based management tools to offer system administrators simple -- yet powerful -- management and system customization facilities. As with all ViewNow products, the latest browser access solution also includes built-in, interactive real-time support capabilities delivered through NetManage's unique SupportNow technology.

``ViewNow Browser Edition for ActiveX offers our customers an alternative to conventional 'fat client' desktop solutions,' said Peter Havart-Simkin, senior vice president of Strategic Development at NetManage. ``Delivered through a Web browser, yet having all of the capability of a traditional desktop product along with built-in interactive support, ViewNow Browser Edition allows our customers to migrate to the Web painlessly.'

This latest edition of ViewNow is installed on a Web server, and delivered on-demand to client workstations, thereby offering organizations a quick and cost-effective alternative to installing and managing host connectivity on individual Microsoft Windows desktops. As a result, all software configuration, deployment and version upgrades are handled easily from one location.

The eN2000 framework ensures that users can easily migrate from ViewNow Windows Edition to ViewNow Browser Edition, or can have both solutions co-existing on their networks using the same database of configuration information. Additionally, the remotely accessible user-based configuration management of eN2000 allows system administrators to configure and control ViewNow solutions from any location.

NetManage's patented SupportNow technology, which enables real-time visual support between the end-user and the help desk is embedded in ViewNow Browser Edition for ActiveX. Through an interactive session over the corporate network, extranet or Internet; NetManage support personnel -- or the organization's own help desk -- can view a user's screen for immediate problem assessment and resolution. This interactive SupportNow technology can also be used for application help and training.

Pricing and Availability

ViewNow Browser Edition for ActiveX is priced at US $165 per user copy and will be available at the end of November. Volume discounts are available. For product pricing and availability outside the U.S., contact your local NetManage representative.
