G.lite might be moot to you, but Lucent obviously doesn't share in that.
It is not 100% clear to me what Lucents viewpoint is. I have seen news releases for BOTH G.lite and Full rate and the same goes for most all Telcom providers. All I know is ...SBC has implied that Lite is not a good idea. GTE, Pacific Bell, and BA are installing Full Rate systems as fast as they can. At this point in time I assume their goals are common which are, preferably, Full Rate first and hedge it with Lite.

My needs aren't for anything other than internet browsing, satellite service takes care of my entertainment needs and I don't require fast uploading. I say that to point out there are different needs of service. It would service us better, I think, if we were to focus on how the market will rollout in the next 12-18 months.
Our goals are different Scrapps. My hopes/desires are to get television programming and radio from all over the world, so I can tell the cable company to go to hell if I want to. Everything I want I should be able to get through the Telcoms. I don't want to "have be forced" to use cable services. I WANT A CHOICE OF PROVIDER. I am not just a surfer. I want to be able to talk face to face using high quality imaging with my European colleagues FROM HOME. There are many, many other things... My thinking is more on a grander scale and I sincerely believe that Telcoms are looking to something more than faster surfing.

SBC has recently said they are still looking at g.lite very seriously.
The article that started this debase contradicts this statement. This what supports my hedge theory along with the high majority of the Telecoms installing as fast as they can Full Rate.

But like you have said... we will just have to wait and see. -E
