The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that MedcomSoft is
peddling its medical record, treatment and diagnosis systems in a market
where few physicians use a computer at point of care. In a fawning article,
reporter Natalie Southworth notes that president Samia Aita insists that
MedcomSoft's product will eventually be a standard medical system for any
health care provider. The premise of MedcomSoft's business model is that
doctors are extremely capable people, but they are not computers.
MedcomSoft has built a software system that helps doctors treat and
diagnose patients. In the past nine months, the company has sold its
MedWorks package to 400 health care sites in Ontario, including Toronto
General Hospital and St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. The deals have
transformed the company from a research and development firm into a sales
organization. Mr. Aita estimates sales of $1-million this year, and he is
projecting that could reach $25-million as more sales hit the books.
