Gold demand up by 27pc in third quarter

KARACHI, Nov 16: The demand for gold increased by 32.3 tonnes or 27 per cent in the third quarter (July-September) of the current year.

"Total gold demand also rose in the third quarter to 876.5 tonnes or 22 percent," said World Gold Council's Manager for Pakistan, Yousuf Akhtar Zaidi.

In a statement here Tuesday he said that gold demand in the Middle East touched a record 116.4 tonnes, an increase of 18 per cent over the same period last year and the demand in the first quarter rose by 3 percent to 373.1 tonnes.

The World Gold Council is an international organisation formed and funded by leading gold mining companies from around the world to increase the demand for gold.-APP
