C'pn: Most stocks, the vast majority, have not followed in lock-step with the market for the last 18 months. Most stocks have seen very large losses in that time and have not had the gains of the handful of the leaders who dominate the indices.

As for ORCL being a example to COMPAQ - I remember last year when ORACLE saw a 50% drop in a couple of days and brought most of the tech stocks down with it when it blamed its troubles on a slowdown in Asian economies.

I happen to disagree on ORCL - they have, in many ways, bigger problems than CPQ but at the moment, not as visible...

If I recall correctly, ORCL missed earnings big time once and didn't warn before making the announcement. LE really POed Wall Street.
