Obviously, most here are happier when the stock is actively moving up, myself included, but I'm satisfied with increasing underlying value. IMO MSFTs position on settlement is exactly correct, i.e. they'll talk and take anything that doesn't cripple their future growth. However, a rushed settlement is a really bad idea.

I think you'll see the DOJ have a lot of trouble coming up with a workable remedy and wind up proposing something that (a) has "overturn" written all over it and (b) is not publicly popular. That would be a better time to get serious about "getting it behind us".

The only ominous remedy proposed thus far is continuing government oversight. Happily, *all* parties (MSFT, DOJ, appeals court, even competitors) have said publicly they don't want that. Remember, also, that splitting the company would be complicated logistically. If the DOJ pursues that we're talking years before anything actually happens.
