hdrjr, As I understand it, reporting energy companies are required to report to the DOE, whereas reporting to the API is voluntary. On that basis, some believe the DOE numbers to be more accurate. But then again, this is the oil business where supply/demand figures are notoriously flakey, we ain't talkin' semiconductor book to bill ratio's here. I mean, every week, the analysts guess wrong - right?

IMO the important thing to watch is the aggregate smoothed out trend, which, for US stocks is down across the board.
