ARE YOU USING YOUR INTERNET RESOURCES TO THE FULLEST? A note from Jan - This will help those using the search and sort feature and those that haven't yet for sure! A True Story About Our Internet Service. Yesterday I received an e-mail that I thought you would be interested in seeing. Hello, I had a prospect call the other day (actually he e-mailed my office after finding name edited out home page on the Internet. He wanted to invest socially correct or politically correct. We have an analyst that has put together a list of over 800 stocks that meet this criteria. I went to Dorsey, Wright's Internet page and built a sample portfolio using all 800 names on the list. From this, I was able to sort the stocks that were giving P&F buy signals, positive relative strength, positive trend line, and industry levels below 70%. I was able to take the 800 names down to a more workable 20-30 stocks. From that list, I screened them using fundamentals. I got my list of "buy" stocks down to 10 names. Where else or how else could I have done this, no where! Thank You... Our hat's off to this broker. He had the foresight to use the technology available to him and formulate a game plan that he could present with confidence to his prospect. If you had a client come to you with the same question, or a client with a portfolio of stocks they wanted evaluated, how would you do? Let's go through the steps of setting up a portfolio on the Internet. Step 1: Go to Dorsey, Wright's homepage and log into the system. Step 2: Click on View and Edit Portfolio (located on the top-right hand side of the page) Step 3: This is the beginning of the Portfolio functions. From this page you can view your portfolios and stocks and see the current technical activity in your portfolio. From this screen you can also create a new portfolio or edit an existing one. To edit a portfolio or create a new one click on "Edit Ports" button toward the bottom of the page. The line will be in yellow. Step 4: For those doing this for the first time, we will edit the list called Dow Jones. Click the "Edit" button next to this line. Step 5: The Edit screen will now appear. At the top there is a box called List Name. Put your cursor in that box and type in a name for your portfolio. Next, put the cursor in the large box where the list of the Dow stocks appears. You can delete these stocks if they are not in your portfolio and then begin typing your tickers in. Remember to separate each by a comma and do not put any returns in, the screen will scroll. Once you have typed in all of the tickers, click the "Save Changes" button. Step 6: The systems now puts you at a screen that lists all portfolios and the components that you have in the system. You can save this page as a back up list of your portfolios. Scroll to the bottom and click the link that says Click to Continue. This takes you back to the Maintenance screen. From here you can add another portfolio by clicking the "Add Port" button and following the same steps outlined in Step 5. Click "Back to Portfolio View" to go and actually see your portfolios. You can print out a summary sheet for a portfolio detailing basic Point & Figure information about the stock and you can also view the activity each day. You can do a search and sorts using technical criteria like relative strength, trend chart, signals, moving averages, and momentums on this portfolio. To do a query,or search and sort, on the portfolio go back to the main menu screen and click the line entitled "Search/Sort - Create Your Own Report." From here you select the criteria that meets your needs and then select which portfolio you want to run the search on. The portfolios are listed under the "Your Universe" section of the page.
