Doug - Re: "I believe Intel may be poised to have a blowout quarter like that, what do you think?"

Hard to say - In 1996, AMD was flat on its BUTT with nothing but a lame K5 and the K6 was just being finished up - so Intel had ZERO competitive pressure.

In fact, Intel POSTPONED a previously scheduled PRICE REDUCTION in late Q3/early Q4 1996 - which helped boost profits and the stock price.

Re: "By the way, didn't Intel postpone the MMX rollout that year until early 1997? "

They sure did - they postponed the Pentium MMX roll out - and RAMPED UP the Pentium production - and ended up with the WRONG CPU mix in early 1997 - then they preannounced in May, 1997 !

Re: "Do you know if INTC was going through a process technology change at that time?"

They were undergoing an internal transition from a 0.35 micron BiCMOS process to an all CMOS version of the 0.35 micron process. The 0.25 micron process didn't get introduced until around September, 1997.
