Re: "Intel's 5 year old 6'th generation x86 whomps all over the brand new shiny AMD 7'th generation AthWIPE !!!"

What I can't understand is why Compaq would pass up the ultra new, ultra advanced Athlon and go and release it's new workstations based on that old Intel Xeon CuMine. I thought Compaq hated Intel and couldn't wait for the chance to use AMD's new Athlon. Why didn't they use the Athlon instead of the CuMine Xeon? Do you think that fact that the Intel processor posted the fastest SpecInt95 scores ever recorded* might have something to do with it?

EP

* Who would have thought just a couple of years ago that we could possibly make this statement? The Alpha was going to totally destroy Intel's processors. The PPC was so new and so advanced that Intel was as good as history. Athlon was going to change the processor landscape forever. Now who stands at the top? When they were supposed to be relegated to the scrap heap of history Intel stands alone with the fastest SpecInt95 scores ever recorded... Simply amazing.....

Ah! You have mistaken a souped up Chevy for a BMW. Nah, can't be. You just went out and bought a lot of AMD. So, I guess it is your mouth to brain disconnect acting up again.

<Why is Intel's Coppermine BETTER and FASTER than AMD 's AthWIPE ?>
Because it is only with Intel comSPECpiler.
Give it some time until Intel fills AMD
order for Vtune4.5 with that comSPECpiler,
and we will see then.

Paul,

Why is Intel's Coppermine BETTER and FASTER than AMD 's AthWIPE ?

I've been explaining this to you for 2 years now. Memory latency is critical for many benchmarks, including SPEC. The low latency L2 on Coppermine gives it a big advantage over Athlon.

Unfortunately for Intel, low latency CPU functions tend to limit clock speed. Is this the case with Coppermine?
