Cringe - Re: "Would you mind sharing your thoughts on how IA-64 and a potential Intel 64bit X86 could co-exist within Intel"

They could coexist - what would be the hangup ?

I really don't know if Intel is going that way or not.

What I do know is that Intel ALREADY has functional ITaniums up and running on Motherboards with 64 bit Operating Systems running 64 bit applications.

In up to 16 and 20-way SMP configurations. That's quite a head start - wouldn't you say ?

I would suspect that customer feedback on these systems - performance, scalability, ease of software development, etc., will dictate if Intel needs to pursue a 64 bit x86 platform.

But then again, marshalling all those resources for 64 bit Operating Systems, Compilers, etc. - that will be no mean task.
