RE: "3) Unprecedented and therefore unpredictable demand growth"

Message 11527549

A quote from the last CC:

"- IMPORTANT: INVENTORY LESS THAN EXPECTED...[because] WE DIDN'T ANTICIPATE THIS MUCH DEMAND SO WE ARE PUSHING OUR FABS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Right now, with fabs, we are trying to, I would like to build up inventory in Q4, don't know if we will be able to or not !!!
[Note: This translates to me: a very healthy demand for Q4]

Hi John,

My interpretation of the CC continues to be "a very healthy demand" (i.e. your option 3) which could possibly also create options 2) and 1).

How else could this be interpreted? Michael Bakunin's proposed interpretation seemed off to me. From the CC, it appears to be pure demand - straight and simple.

Regards, Amy J

John - <Mr Sullivan added that Intel was not experiencing any technical difficulties and said the recent earthquake in Taiwan 'was not a factor for Intel in it's shipments of microprocessors'.
Mr. Sullivan said Intel expects to ship 'millions' of new Pentium IIIs in the fourth quarter."...I wish Intel would...>

I hear ya John.

John,I wish Intel would spell out what the issue is. It could be a combination
of several things:

1) Poor forecast for the quarter; can't get parts from JIT suppliers
2) Not enough manufacturing capacity
3) Unprecedented and therefore unpredictable demand growth
4) A screw up by a vendor in the supply chain
5) Other

Hopefully Intel will make a public statement to clear up this mystery. It
would be nice it they revised 4th Q guidance upward in the same
statement <g>",

Starting to read between the lines I see!
