Good point! Maybe it's the expectation that DDR will catch up by then and offer a cheaper alternative?

It's often the case with technologies that are more expensive and increase performance in some areas but not in others.

A good example is SCSI hard drives (compared to IDE drives). SCSI drives are higher performing and the standard for servers and most workstations, but are almost never seen on PC's since using a SCSI drive instead of IDE adds about $250 to the price of the system.
