Company Press Release
NaviSite Announces Strategic Partnership With Akamai to Deploy End-to-End Web Site Services
ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1999--

NaviSite's application services, Web server management and single

point of problem resolution complement Akamai's Internet content

delivery service to provide higher bandwidth and Web site performance

NaviSite, Inc. (NASDAQ:NAVI), a leading ASP and Web hosting supplier today announced that the company has entered a partnership with Akamai Technologies, which operates a global Internet content delivery service that improves the speed and reliability of Web performance. This agreement is a key element of NaviSite's Content Distribution service offering and is designed to provide NaviSite customers with access to an end-to-end content distribution system combined with application and server management services. The enhanced content delivery service, combined with application and server management, will allow Web sites to offer powerful and engaging content -- without the extra expense and headache of building unwanted infrastructure or large technical staffs.

The NaviSite/Akamai agreement has four distinct elements, including joint network deployment, co-marketing, reselling, and technology exploration and development. NaviSite and Akamai will also integrate their management systems, allowing NaviSite to perform complete problem resolution management for all aspects of the NaviSite Content Distribution service. This means that NaviSite will provide customers with a single point of contact to resolve all issues associated with any Web site it hosts, eliminating the difficulties of dealing with multiple outsourcers. This comprehensive relationship is unique for both parties.

"Site performance is of critical importance to Send.com," said Ken Surden, vice president of technology, Send.com. "The combination of NaviSite's and Akamai's services creates a more seamless integration of network infrastructure and support, enhancing the speed and performance of sites, and positively impacting our customers' experience."

NaviSite, a pioneer in problem resolution management, currently offers high performance Web hosting services and application management using the company's premier transit network for superior Internet connectivity. NaviSite's Content Distribution service will provide a highly reliable infrastructure for delivering rich media content on behalf of customers that require large amounts of bandwidth and extremely high performance. The integration of Akamai's distributed server network with NaviSite's premier transit network, hosting and management services provides a powerful combination for improving the speed management of sites.

As part of the relationship, both companies will work together to explore the delivery of future application services. NaviSite will optimize its infrastructure around the Akamai platform to provide managed applications with the best performance and reliability, and will provide skilled technical expertise to customers that seek to architect their Web sites to take full advantage of Akamai's FreeFlow service. In addition, Akamai and NaviSite will explore ways to deploy and manage applications across both companies' networks and servers.

"The strategic relationship between Akamai and NaviSite creates a 'best of both worlds' hybrid that offers economy of scale infrastructure, server and application management with the flexibility of distributed servers," said Peter Kirwan, CTO of NaviSite, Inc. "Our agreement also forms a key element of the foundation for NaviSite's long-term application and content delivery strategy, as we continue to build products that offer customers the best possible performance and reliability."
