Elan Appoints Dr. Ivan Lieberburg as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific and Medical Officer DUBLIN, Ireland, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Elan Corporation, plc (NYSE: ELN - news; ''Elan'') is pleased to announce the appointment of Ivan Lieberburg, Ph.D., MD to Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific and Medical Officer of the Corporation, reporting to the Chairman and CEO, Mr. Donal Geaney. Dr. Lieberburg has been an active biomedical researcher for over 25 years, having authored over 100 research publications. He received an AB in biology from Cornell University, a Ph.D. from The Rockefeller University and an MD from the University of Miami. He completed post-doctoral training at The Rockefeller University and the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his clinical training also at UCSF, where he is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine. Dr. Lieberburg has been honoured with a number of prestigious awards including Rockefeller University Fellow, Hartford Foundation Scholar, McKnight Foundation Fellow in Neuroscience and Public Health Service Scholar. He is board certified by the American College of Physicians in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism. Prior to joining Elan in 1987, Dr. Lieberburg held faculty positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York. At Elan, Dr. Lieberburg has held a number of key research posts, most recently as Senior Vice President of Research at Elan Pharmaceuticals. Under his guidance Elan has taken a leading position in research and drug discovery in the neurosciences. In his new position Dr. Lieberburg will join Elan's Corporate Management Committee and will advise the Chairman, the Board of Directors and senior management on scientific and medical issues.
