(COMTEX) B: Russia Develops Super-Fast Underwater Missile B: Russia Develops Super-Fast Underwater Missile MOSCOW (Nov. 18) XINHUA - The Russian scientific production association Region has developed a fast sea-launched missile called Shkval, reported the Interfax news agency Thursday. The missile can reach a speed of up to 200 knots (about 100 m/sec) under water. The manner of its use is as follows: after discovering a target, the crew of a submarine, ship or the coast guard defines its parameters -- speed, distance and vector -- and feeds the data to the missile's automatic pilot, then the missile is fired from its optimum depth, said Yevgeny Shakhidzhanov, Region general director. The missile does not have a homing warhead and follows a computer-generated program, and is therefore absolutely proof against disturbances, the Interfax quoted Shakhidzhanov as saying. He said that because of few orders from the Russian Defense Ministry, Region developed an export modification of the missile, Shkval-E.
