Re: Proper attribution of copyrighted material

As long as the use of copyrighted material is for non-commercial use, newspapers are quite amenable to allowing it to be cut and pasted providing there is proper attribution. For example, here is the policy of the Naples Daily News:

We waive copyright restrictions on such material when it is used for non-commercial purposes and the proper attribution is given. Proper attribution, in our view, consists of the name of the author, the name of the publication, the date and a link to our website.

Fortunately for us, the papers to whom I've corresponded do not consider the context in which we use their material to be commercial, although I'm sure they would never issue a blanket statement to that effect for all of SI. So, suffice to say, I thank them for allowing us to continue to use their material here.
