Internet Upstart Grabs KOREA Ticker on Nasdaq Wednesday November 17 10:32 AM ET SEOUL (Reuters) - A South Korean venture firm proud to be the nation's first to list on the technology-led Nasdaq index will debut on Wednesday with the ticker KOREA. ``We're very happy to be the first Korean company to list on the Nasdaq,' said a spokesman for Thrunet, an Internet service provider started three years ago and partly owned by Microsoft. Thrunet grabbed the 'Korea' moniker ahead of more than 100 firms with similar names, including heavyweight namesakes Korea Telecom (NYSE:KTC - news) and Korea Electric Power Corp (NYSE:KEP - news). ``We got the idea from China.com Corp', said the spokesman. That company, also an Internet service venture firm, listed on the Nasdaq in July. As it's name begins with China, it got the ticker CHINA.O. Asked how Thrunet got the Korea ticker, the spokesman said: 'We used the name Korea Thrunet (NasdaqNM:KOREA - news) in English in order to grab the ticker.' ``It should be easy to find,' he said. Thrunet aims to raise $117.5 million through the initial public offering of 9.8 million Class A common shares. Its share is priced at $18, the official said. Underwriters include Lehman Brothers, CIBC World Markets as well as Bear, Stearns & Co Inc.
