< pressure cracks are starting to show>

You make a good point. Intel has been predicatable and
a reliable supplier. This Athlon "speed thing" must have
sent Intel into a internal tailspin causing:

1. Earlier than usual release (for Intel)of product in the development cycle (before it is ready in volume).

2. Now a PR flub by Intel that never releases anything
that has not been carefully scripted.

What will we see next?

Chuck,

FWIW, update on the Gateway rumor - From the AMDZONE

More On Gateway Athlon Systems-Chris 'ruiner' Tom 2:40 a.m. CST
From what I've heard at Comdex, it looks like the reports of Gateway
announcing an Athlon based system on the 23rd of this month appear to be
true. I also have heard that Intel had bought off Gateway from making
Athlon systems on the conditions that the i820/CuMine platform was ready
to go by November 1st. Apparently Gateway is keeping the money and selling
Athlon systems. Now that one made me chuckle. I couldn't get any info at
the Gateway booth. Surprise, surprise.
