According to the link I gave "one reason EMC is buying Data General is for it's unannounced NAS filer product" Initially I couldn't see why EMC wanted DGM, but now it's becoming more clear.
The general consensus of the thread is that this whole field lacks the switching costs and barriers to entry that would make it a gorilla game. It's a royalty game. EMC or NTAP could still be good investments since there is no end in sight for the explosion in demand for data storage. Also, the technology for storage is advancing at a a very speedy rate, and lowered costs associated with improved products should in themselves increase demand. Users want more, and suppliers are giving better and cheaper products. What more could be needed for rapid growth? I already own all the EMC I want, and am looking at NTAP. NTAP CEO will be on CNBC today.
