THE HANDSET DEAL IS>

f next year."

Jacobs, who was speaking Wednesday morning at the Warburg Dillon Read
Global Telecom Conference in Manhattan, didn't specify the purchaser.

Jacobs also provided analysts with the company's goals for the upcoming
year and said he expects first-quarter per-share earnings in the mid-90-cents
range. The First Call/Thomson Financial consensus estimate is the San
Diego telecommunications-equipment maker will earn 95 cents a diluted
share in both the first and second quarters, excluding one-time items.

Jacobs said the company continues to see strong revenue from its CDMA
wireless phone technology patent and has hopes it will be the
third-generation standard in telecommunications.
