Asia Precious Metals Review: Palladium surges on short-covering
Tokyo--Dec 15--Spot palladium expanded overnight gains Wednesday in Asia on
short-covering and speculative buying on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange, where
some contracts hit a daily price limit-up or ceiling, dealers said. Platinum was
supported by palladium, but some profit-taking kept prices from further rallying
in Asia. Gold continued to hover around US $280 per ounce on too few fresh
incentives, while silver failed to rally in Asia despite the overnight rally in
the US market. (Story .2200)

Russian upper house to consider resumption of platinum exports
Moscow--Dec 14--The upper house of the Russian parliament will consider on
Dec 22 a legislative amendment which would allow the export of platinum and
other precious metals to resume, an official with the house's budget committee
said Tuesday. The lower house, or Duma, approved the amendment on Dec 1.
Platinum exports were suspended in May due to an irregularity in the law. (Story

Moscow--Dec 14--Norilsk Nickel and the Central Bank of Russia (CBR), the two
largest exporters of platinum and palladium in the country have reached an
"understanding on ways to influence the world market in order to achieve high
prices," Chairman of Norilsk Nickel's board of directors Yury Kotlyar said
today. However, Kotlyar said there would be no delay in PGM exports next year as
