Denver, Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- U S West Inc., a local telephone company that's merging with Qwest Communications International Inc., said it will install a new network to improve wireless Internet access in Salt Lake City. They'll be able to use their existing Qualcomm Inc. and Nokia Oyj phones, a spokeswoman said. U S West said it will use the new mini-tower network design and ''PICOcell'' technology as it expands its wireless service to 22 new markets. The technology also will be used to offer advanced services in U S West Wireless's 24 existing markets. U S West, which had 344,000 wireless customers as of Sept. 30, provides local phone service in 14 western states. U S West shares rose 5/16 to 66 1/4 in midmorning trading. Qwest fell 3/4 to 38 5/8.
