Another Japanese competitor about to enter the scanner marketplace:

"I/O Software will be exhibiting Mitsubishi's new MyPass fingerprint scanner at Comdex's Biometrics Pavilion. The MyPass fingerprint scanner is a low-cost USB optical device that will is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2000. An OEM module for the scanner will also be available for OEM manufacturers. MyPass product demonstrations will be held in the International Biometrics Group booth (#BIO17, Las Vegas Convention Center, 1st Floor, South Hall)."

==============

Let's see, we have Sony, NEC, Fujitsu (a partner), Polaroid (not a peep out of them lately), Samsung, now Mitsubishi . . . some Korean entrants, Veridicom, Authentec, Who?Vision, BII, American Biometrics, Infineon (a partner) -- am I leaving anyone out? -- and none of them seem able to break through. Some don't even seem able to get a usable product out, but they all see a big market coming.

I wonder what the specs are going to be on the Mitsubishi reader . . . and whether it will be DOA.
