Mike, rural areas are not so bad but in midwestern places like KC, Omaha, St. Louis, Wichita,Oklahoma City, Tulsa, etc., look out. These are cities with the demographics of population that can explode over any provocation.

MikeH, I think the gist of Frederic's message is that all of us should be prepared rather than panic. He did say his message was a bit harsh and presented a worst case scenario. My household is in a semi-rural area as well as yours. And we are self-sufficient. But I'm glad he brought this to our attention. Maybe it will help more people to prepare.

The main stream media have developed this tendency to “under-report” certain types of crime. The rationale behind this may be that the “Media Lords” do not wish to frighten people or make the revelation that violent crime really is rampant in many of our inner cities. If one looks hard enough, and is interested in getting to the truth, one can find a virtual plethora of these types of news stories on the internet.

Here is a prime example:

Baby Rescued From Dead Mother's Womb Pregnant Woman Was Killed by Home Intruders
Nov. 16, 1999
By Todd Venezia

OKLAHOMA CITY (APBnews.com) -- Doctors miraculously saved a pregnant woman's unborn child just minutes after she was slashed to death by home intruders, authorities said today.

Danielle Scott, who was 8 1/2 months pregnant, was found at 10 a.m. Monday on the lawn outside her apartment. She was slashed across the throat and bleeding to death alongside her fiance, Calvin Elliot, who was also wounded, police said.

The 19-year-old woman was rushed to Integris Southwest Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The emergency room team, led by Dr. Marty McBee, immediately performed a caesarean section, which rescued the infant before it could suffer damage from loss of oxygen, a hospital spokesman said.

"This was the first time this doctor had ever performed something like this," said hospital spokesman Damon Gardenhire. "This is a very rare thing."

Fiance in good condition

The roughly 5-pound baby girl had to be incubated and was then placed on a ventilator, Gardenhire said. She was then taken to a children's hospital, where she was listed in critical condition today.

Meanwhile, police say they are searching for two unidentified men believed to be behind the attack. Police had no clear description of the attackers and knew of no motive for the attack. The only clue police could reveal was that they believe the suspects were black men, driving a black car with temporary tags.

Police said that the victims were attacked after Elliot answered the door to his Sunnyview Drive apartment at about 10 a.m. Some sort of dispute ensued, and Elliot and Scott were slashed inside the home, where they lived with their 2-year-old child. The wounded couple then staggered outside, where police found them, police said.

Elliot, who was also slashed on the throat, is now listed in good condition at Midwest City Regional Medical Center. The infant, who has not yet been given a name, is now in the custody of relatives, as is the couple's other child.

MikeH,

The way I see it, you'll be ok. What I suspect is that people in larger cities who are ready to go off anyway will. Just look at the L.A. riots. Rodney King getting beat up by cops caused all that? I don't think so. It was largely a bunch of malcontents taking advantage of a situation they could use as an excuse for their actions. This is where I think the major problem will be. If you're in a "we can do it ourselves" community you'll probably have no problem. It will more than likely just be the large cities that will have a problem, if any.
