Thanks, it looks pretty good. I guess its a distillation of his 4 vol. History of the English Speaking People, which I have in storage but seriously doubt if I'll ever read it cover to cover. I usually avoid general histories, but this one looks good. I've read 70 pages of Roddy Doyle's A Star Called Henry and so far I find it tedious and overbearing. No lyricism at all. It ain't no Angela's Ashes. Part 2 starts on page 89, if it doesn't pick up there early on I'm moving on to better things.
