A repeat of my post on the very dead thestreet.com boards about why entertainment stocks don't get a fair break and another way to profit on Pokemon. ---------------- A few things-- I always disagree with this one-time gain PE of 1 crap when it comes to an entertainment stock. Replacing hits is part of the business. It's why it makes no sense to me that some say AKLM deserves no multiple on its share of profits from the WWF videogames since it has lost the license starting tomorrow (the license has gone to THQI). That's just the first example that comes to mind--but replacing hits is part of the entertainment business. In the same sense, THQI longs did not panic when it lost the WCW license, figuring smart management had time to find the next new thing. Of course they ended up stealing the WWF license from AKLM in a creative way, but I digress. Saw a line of parents in Burger King today buying kid's meals just for the Pokemon toy. One guy even handchecked each bag to make sure it had the toy. This thing has legs and will lead to good money next year too. One thing that TSC didn't point out is that WCW popularity is plummeting. So at least you guys got lucky on that one. Seriously, the cable nielsons are down something like 40% from a year ago. The momentum has all gone to the WWF. You KIDE longs should also be happy that you didn't sell out at a split-adjusted six like I did this spring. Never fully understood how popular Pokemon was at that point and needed to pay the rent. One of my big mistakes of the year. Final point: A good way to play this "fad" without having to buy a pricey stock is to buy videogame companies that have great Christmas offerings on Nintendo hardware platforms. That means Nintendo 64 and Gameboy Color. Pokemon is driving sales of these units like crazy. As I've been saying on the videogame boards, if you were into Pokemon this summer you already have Pokemon red, blue, and pinball. So there's only yellow to buy now. After that, you'll be buying third party games for the Gameboy. I don't know who the leading 3rd party N64 company is but THQI is the leading developer for Gameboy with Toy Story 2, Rugrats, Madden, Tiger Woods, and WWF offerings. Yes, total spam but you will love this company and it has a PE less than 20. Of course it has Rugrats and WWF on the other platforms as well and is ready to break to new highs.
