To truedog:
from C Kahn:

Truedog, in addition to your information about running things from a car battery, I think it's important that people are aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide. When I lived in a place where it snowed, my car spun out and the tail end was stuck in a snowbank. So, I figured I'd leave the car running so I could have the heater on until another car came by. It was a deserted country road that I drove to work when the snow was bad, because it didn't have any steep turns. I had never seen another car on that road, and I was getting unnerved, as this was long before cell-phones. Anyhow, in about 5 minutes a tow-truck stopped and pulled me out. I tried to pay him but he wouldn't take it. (Personally, I think God sent me an angel in a tow-truck). My husband later told me that the carbon monoxide wouldn't have taken too much longer to kill me, since the tail pipe was crammed into the snow bank!!!

People should be made aware of these potential disasters.

Actually, I was thinking that my imaginary invention would attach directly to the wheel axle so would get the full power of the engine. Yes, I'm sure it would guzzle gas though.
