Here's a summary of the AMAT release and earnings upgrades:
_____________

Applied Materials (AMAT 110 +4 1/2): after the close, posted a fiscal Q4 net from continuing operations of $0.69 per share, total operating net was $0.77 per share; year-ago net was $0.02 per share; the First Call mean estimate was $0.64; Brokerage firm sources that we talked to claimed that the relevant number is $0.77 therefore AMAT appears to have beaten estimates by 13 cents; revenues rose 133% to $1.57 bln and 9% sequentially (estimates were in the $1.4 to $1.5 bln range)... Prior to the report, Lehman Bros raised its price target from $100 to $125 as it said it saw potential upside to its $0.66 Q4 EPS estimate... CIBC World Markets raised its Q4 estimate from $0.64 to $0.75 (street high), and moved its near-term price target from $100 to $130; 12-month price target is $170... shares of AMAT saw some profit taking as they were down 1 1/2 in after hours trading
