Michael: I don't follow instinet The partner, Cable and Wirless, have a big plant about half a mile from where I am sitting. They are a big name in the UK and Europe and are into cable TV here and telephones but not so big in the US. The deal will give Cable and Wireless increased exposure in the US and give COMPAQ increased exposure in the UK and Europe, and they will help each other in Japan and SE Asia.

My guess is the news will contribute to growing good feeling about COMPAQ but I would be surprised if, by itself, it caused substantial further gain in the share price. After an initial flurry there might be profit-taking.

But all these substantial good announcements will have an accumulative effect.
